World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms, known simply as WWOOF, connects sustainable farmers with willing volunteers, in an exchange of education, culture, and sweat to bring forth wholesome agricultural products from the farms of the USA.
WWOOFers, as they are known, learn about the organic movement and sustainable agriculture while receiving room and board. It is an educational and cultural exchange program where volunteers learn practical farming skills, become part of the organic agriculture movement, and experience the heart of American agrarian culture.
There are more than 1600 organic host farms and gardens across the USA, with even more located in countries all over the world. Any farm, community or garden project using organic methods that would like to participate in a cultural and educational exchange may join the program. The program is open to anyone 18 years of age or older, regardless of experience. They encourage all types of WWOOFers and hosts who would like to work together to strengthen sustainable agriculture. WWOOF farms offer a variety of educational opportunities, with farms in all 50 states, the US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, there is something for everyone. Where Do Our WWOOFers Go Next?
At Green Flamingo, we have met all kinds of WWOOFers and hosted volunteers from all over the world! Our WWOOFers often continue their travels to differetn types of farms or to different parts of the world after they leave our farm in order to continue their farming education. Some of our WWOOFers have started their own farms, CoOps, or community garden programs.
